How we calculated
- Working days: all Sundays to Thursdays in the month (or Sundays to Fridays in a 6-day week), minus holiday rest days that fall on them. Holiday eves and intermediate days were counted as regular working days.
- Standard hours, 5-day week: working days times 8.4 hours. 8.4 is a 42-hour week divided by 5 days. In practice the regular day is 8.6 hours with one shorter day a week (4 × 8.6 + 7.6 = 42), so the monthly total also depends on which day is shorter at your workplace.
- Standard hours, 6-day week: working days times 7 hours (42 divided by 6). This is only an average: in a 6-day week the regular day is 8 hours with a shorter Friday, so a holiday on a Friday actually removes fewer than 7 hours.
- The 182-hour base: many employers calculate hourly pay and job percentage from a fixed base of 182 hours a month (42 hours × 52 weeks ÷ 12). That base does not change from month to month and ignores holidays, so it differs from the table.
The rules on the working day and week are explained in how many hours you may work a day. Dates were calculated from the Hebrew calendar as observed in Israel. A collective agreement, a sector extension order or the employment contract may set a shorter week or a different split of hours — in that case, calculate by the arrangement that applies to you.

Holiday eves, intermediate days and holiday pay
Holiday eve: a working day that is usually shortened
A holiday eve is not a rest day. Most workplaces shorten the working day on a holiday eve, but the general law does not require it. The shorter day comes from a collective agreement, a sector extension order, the employment contract or workplace custom. In the table above, holiday eves were counted as full working days.
Intermediate days: regular working days
The intermediate days of Passover and Sukkot are working days under the law. Some workplaces close on them or allow leave, by arrangement with employees. In 2027 all the intermediate days fall in April and October, so those are the months to plan schedules and leave early.
Working on a holiday rest day
Someone employed on a holiday rest day is entitled to a premium, as for work during weekly rest. The rates are in the guide to overtime and Shabbat and holiday rates, and you can check a specific shift in the overtime calculator.
Holiday pay for hourly and daily employees
A monthly-salaried employee gets the full salary in a month with holidays too. An hourly or daily employee is entitled under the extension order to holiday pay for up to 9 holiday days a year, after 3 months of work, provided they were not absent on the day before and the day after the holiday without the employer's consent. No holiday pay is paid for a holiday that falls on Saturday.
In 2027 three of the nine holiday days fall on Saturday: the first day of Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot and Shemini Atzeret. Shavuot falls on Friday — and according to case law, an employee who does not work on Fridays anyway is not entitled to holiday pay for it. The full calculation is in the holiday pay calculator.
This is general information, not legal advice. Collective agreements, sector extension orders and personal contracts may set different terms, sometimes better ones — a shorter work week, shortened holiday eves or extra days off.
