Collecting vacation requests on paper?

With RayClock, the employee sends a vacation request from their phone, the manager approves with one tap, and the balance updates by itself — by each employee's seniority, with half days, and without deducting Saturdays and holidays.

Working days are counted by the selected work week, without weekly rest days and without holiday rest days by the Hebrew calendar. Holiday eves and intermediate days count as working days. The form is free to use and is not legal advice.

Vacation request, approval and balance

What the form should include

  • The employee's name, the requested dates and the type of leave.
  • The number of working days the request deducts from the balance — without Saturdays and holidays.
  • The balance before and after, so the employee sees what is left.
  • The manager's decision, name, signature and date.

The employer sets the dates, but consults

Under the Annual Leave Law, the employer sets the vacation dates, after consulting the employee and taking the needs of the work into account, and notifies the employee in advance. In practice most requests start with the employee, and the form is how you record what was agreed. A company-wide vacation for all employees — for example during the intermediate days — is allowed under certain conditions, and its days are deducted from the balance.

What is not deducted from the balance

The weekly rest day and holiday rest days that fall inside the vacation are not vacation days. Sick days, reserve duty and mourning are not vacation either, and if an employee falls ill during the vacation, approved sick days do not count as vacation. To see in advance how many holidays fall in a given period, use the 2027 calendar with holidays.

Seven days in a row each year

The law requires that at least 7 vacation days a year be given in a row. The rest can be split up and, by agreement, carried over to the next years. Paying money instead of vacation is allowed only when employment ends.

FAQ

Questions about vacation requests

Is a written vacation request form required?

The law does not require a specific form, but a written request and approval record who asked, what was approved and when, and prevent disputes over the balance when employment ends.

Who decides when the employee goes on vacation?

Under the Annual Leave Law, the employer sets the vacation dates, after consulting the employee and taking the needs of the work into account, and notifies the employee in advance. In practice most employers approve the dates the employee asks for when they suit the work.

Does a holiday in the middle of the vacation count as a vacation day?

No. A holiday rest day and the weekly rest day are not vacation days and are not deducted from the balance. That is why the form counts only working days, without Saturdays and holidays.

How many vacation days is an employee entitled to a year?

In a 5-day work week: 12 working days a year in the first five years, 14 in the sixth year, and one more day each year after that up to 20 days from year 12. These are the minimums for a full-time employee; an agreement or custom may give more.

Vacation requests from the phone, balances that update themselves

With RayClock, the employee requests leave in the app, the manager approves, and the balance accrues and is deducted by seniority — no forms and no Excel. The same system also calculates attendance, overtime, Shabbat and holidays. 14-day trial, no credit card.
