Holiday pay calculator
An employee paid by the hour or by the day in Israel is entitled to pay for holidays on which they did not work, under the conditions set in the extension order. Pick a year and a work week to see which holidays fall on workdays and what the payment comes to.
| Holiday | Date | Holiday pay |

The calculator assumes the employee was not absent on the day before or after the holiday, or was absent with the employer's consent. The value of a holiday is calculated here as the hourly wage times the average daily hours, i.e. the pay for a regular workday. The date of Independence Day may be moved by government decision. A collective agreement, an industry extension order or a personal contract can give more. This is general information and does not constitute legal advice.
Holiday pay: who is entitled, and for which days
Who is entitled
Holiday pay is set by the general extension order for the economy, not by a separate law. An employee paid by the hour, by the day or by output is entitled to it after completing 3 months of work with the employer. A monthly-salaried employee receives the full salary even in a month with holidays: the salary is not reduced, so there is no separate payment.
The nine holidays
Up to 9 holidays a year: both days of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, the first day of Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret (Simchat Torah), the first day of Passover, the seventh day of Passover, Shavuot and Independence Day.
When a holiday is not paid
Only a holiday on which the employee would otherwise have worked is paid. A holiday on Saturday, the weekly rest day, is not paid. On a 5-day week (Sun–Thu), a holiday on Friday is not paid either, because no workday is lost; on a 6-day week, a Friday holiday is paid. An employee who was absent on the day before or after the holiday without the employer's consent is not paid for that holiday. In both 2026 and 2027, the first day of Rosh Hashanah, the first day of Sukkot and Shemini Atzeret fall on Saturday.
How much a holiday is worth
The payment is what the employee would have earned on a regular workday, without travel expenses. For an hourly employee it is based on the average daily hours worked in the 3 months before the holiday, times the hourly wage. Someone who actually works on a holiday is paid differently; see the guide to Shabbat and holiday rates and the overtime calculator.
