What shift scheduling includes
Publishing to employees
The rota stays a draft until you publish it. Then employees get a notification and see their shifts in the app and in the browser.
Employee availability
Employees mark days they cannot work in advance. When you assign them, you see a warning — and the decision stays with the manager.
Shift swaps
Two employees agree a swap and the manager approves it. Only the approval moves the shifts, so the rota never contradicts itself.
Open shifts
A shift with nobody on it is posted to the team. Whoever wants it applies, and the manager chooses. Someone without a valid required qualification cannot take it.
Warnings while you assign
You get a warning when you assign someone who marked themselves unavailable, is on leave or sick, already has a shift that day, or lacks a required qualification.

Questions about shift scheduling
Do employees see the rota on their phone?
Yes. Once the rota is published, employees get a notification and see their shifts in the Android and iPhone app and in the browser. From there they also mark availability, request swaps and take open shifts.
Does the rota affect how hours are calculated?
Yes. In the work profile you decide what happens when someone arrives before the shift starts or stays after it ends: count the extra time as overtime, or trim it to the shift.
Can a department manager schedule only their own team?
Yes. A department manager sees and assigns the employees in their department, and approves their swaps and open-shift requests.
What does the law say about rest between shifts and night work?

Does shift scheduling cost extra?
