Daily sheet or monthly sheet?
When a daily sheet fits
A daily sheet stays in one place, by the entrance, and everyone who arrives signs themselves in. It suits a business where several employees come to the same place: a shop, a restaurant, a clinic, a building site or a small office. The manager sees at a glance who is in today and who isn't yet.
When a monthly sheet per employee is better
When employees work at different times and places, or you want an hours total ready for each person, a personal monthly card is easier. You can make one with the printable monthly timesheet, which has every day of the month and an hours total.
Records are still required, even on paper
Israel's Hours of Work and Rest Law requires employers to keep a record of every employee's working hours for every work day. Under Amendment 24 to the Wage Protection Law, when there is no proper record and a dispute over hours comes up, the burden of proof moves to the employer. A daily sheet helps you record in real time, but at the end of the month you still need to collect each employee's hours into one report and keep the original sheets.
What the sheet should include
- Employer name, date, and branch or department.
- For each employee: name, clock-in and clock-out time.
- The employee's signature next to each entry.
- Name and signature of the person responsible for the sheet.
The limits of a paper sheet
An employee can write down a time that isn't accurate, a sheet can go missing, and copying hours into the monthly report is done by hand. The more employees and branches you have, the more working out overtime, breaks and Shabbat turns into hours of work every month.
Work out the hours once it's filled in
The overtime calculator turns clock-in and clock-out times into regular, 125% and 150% hours. And if you're wondering how many hours a half-time or 75% position is, there's a job percentage calculator.
Questions about daily attendance sheets
What's the difference between a daily and a monthly sheet?
A daily sheet collects all employees on one day and stays by the entrance. A monthly sheet collects every day of the month for one employee.
Does the employee need to sign?
The employee's signature next to their times strengthens the record and reduces disputes later.
What do I do with the sheets at the end of the month?
Copy each employee's hours into one monthly report and keep the original sheets.
Can I fill it in Excel?
Yes. The CSV download opens the same table in Excel, but recording in real time is stronger evidence than filling it in afterwards.
Replace the sheet by the door with real clock-ins?
With RayClock, employees clock in from their phone or an NFC station at the entrance, and the manager sees in real time who has arrived. Hours, breaks and overtime are calculated automatically, and every correction is saved with a name and date. At the end of the month you get a report ready for payroll.
